Condensation and
filtration module for gas sampling for
determination of heavy metal and dioxin
contents

Product
destination
The product
offered is an element of the unit set for
isokinetic sampling of dust and gas used to
determine the level of polychlorinated
dibenzodioxins/dibenzofurans (PCDDs/PCDFs) and
heavy metals such as : mercury, arsenic, thallium
and cadmium - in the gases emitted from
stationary sources of emissions. The condensation
and filtration module is another element in the
set, after dust separator, which allows for
taking a representative sample. With respect to
design (configuration and materials), the module
meets requirements of the European Standard, EN
1948-1:1996.
The module
includes the following elements :
- water cooler
- replaceable
condensate container
- replaceable
flow container with sorbent
The elements
mentioned are fitted in a portable "alu-box"
type housing.

A sample of
gas taken isokinetically from the duct using a
probe (Information sheet: "Aspiration
speed probe SP-sst, SP-sstg, SP-sstgr type"), when solid particles
have been separated in the dust separator (Information
sheet: "Heated dust separator FS-100g") is cooled down in the
water cooler. The precipitated condensate is
collected in a vessel, capacity 1 dcm3,
which undergoes (similarly to dust) further tests
in the laboratory.
Then, the
gas stream flows through the flow container
filled with appropriate sorbent e.g. XAD type or
polyurethane foam insert type. Before sampling,
standard substances PCDD/F identified with carbon
isotope 13C are added to the sorbents
- according to standard EN-1948-1, in order to
determine degree of recovery in the sampling
process and to prepare them for analyses.
A unit
measuring physical and chemical parameters of the
main stream (in the duct being tested) and
parameters of the partial stream (in the sampling
route) and a suck-in unit with negative pressure
adjustment are connected to the outlet from the
module. This function can be fulfilled by the
gravimetric dust meter control unit, EMIOTESTR
series (Information sheet: "Gravimetric
dust meter EMIOTESTR
2598"). The suck-in unit, AZ-15, is a
source of forced flow (Information sheet: "Suck-in
unit AZ-15").
